"Parents of McFly’s Harry cheer him on in Strictly Come Dancing from their home in Clare
When Harry Judd, best known as the drummer in pop band McFly, stepped on to the stage or the BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing show last weekend, one household in Clare was sure to become very partisan in their support.
His parents, Emma and Christopher live in Clare and although the 25-year-old musician now lives in London, he went to Old Buckenham Hall School in Brettenham and played junior cricket for Suffolk.
His first routine with dance partner, Russian-born Aliona Vilani, was aired to an audience of millions on Saturday night, although no- one is being voted off until this weekend.
Harry’s mother Emma, who is a practice nurse at the Siam Surgery in Sudbury, said: “Harry is a very driven person who works hard when he is focused on something he wants to do.
“He is going about this dancing competition in exactly the same way. Of course, he’s nervous about it – he has never done dancing before, apart from the Strictly show for Children in Need, but he is training seriously hard and he calls me occasionally to let me know how it is going, and to tell me how he is feeling.
“He wants to do well and to entertain people, that’s what he says he does best, so I hope everyone will get behind him and vote for him.”
Harry spent some time visiting his parents in Clare over the summer – they have recently moved from Kersey - and his mother added: “Harry has a busy life, so time spent with him is precious to us.”
“We love it when he comes to stay but he has his own life now – we don’t feel the need to know what he is doing every minute.”
Harry’s dad Christopher added: “The main thing about Harry is that he’s very grounded, in fact all the band members are.
“When he comes home, he gets on with normal stuff like mowing the lawn. He’s not some kind of demi-god.
“In fact, when he has all these people screaming at him, he’s more likely to think they are going to hit him than rather than mob him.”
