"Hundreds flock to see McFly's return to Marlborough
McFly fans swarmed into Marlborough again in their hundreds last night when members of the boy band made their second visit to the town’s music shop Sound Knowledge in the space of three months.
Lead vocalist Danny Jones and guitarist Tom Fletcher were booked to appear at Sound Knowledge to sign copies of their new single That’s the Truth but there was a bonus for the McFly fans when Harry Judd, who had visited the music store last November with Dougie Poynter, turned up as well.
A queue stretched from the music store the length of Hughenden Yard and then along the High Street for another 60 to 70 metres.
In November it was estimated between 600 and 700 McFly fans had patiently waited their turn to get their CD’s and autograph books signed by the band but on Monday one of the stewards controlling the queue and letting the fans into the shop in small groups said: “I think there are even more this time.”
One of the most patient people in the queue had to be grandmother Gwen Ball from Collingbourne Ducis who admitted she was not a McFly fan but was queuing to get their autographs for her 14-year-old granddaughter Amy Hopkins who boards at Warminster and could not get the afternoon off.
Mrs Ball was at the head of the human crocodile waiting outside the store and waited from noon until after 5pm to get the treasured signatures of the three McFly members for Amy.
Mrs Ball said: “It will be worth it when I see the look on her face when I hand her their autographs.”
The most ardent fan had to be Edward Scipio, 12, of Owen Close in Devizes who is confined to a wheelchair with cerebral palsy and who arrived early with his mother to make sure he was among the first to meet them.
Edward, who attends Threeways School in Bath had taken the day off to meet his heroes, said his mother Sharon, who added: “His bedroom is covered in their pictures and he rarely misses them when they appear on television.
“We are going to see them in Birmingham in two weeks time and they have invited Edward backstage to meet them."
The three McFly members had good news for their fans, assuring them that Dougie Poynter, who is taking a break from the band would definitely join them on their UK tour which starts at Sheffield on March 18.
Tom Fletcher said: “He is in rehab at the moment recovering from being down and stressed but he is getting better although he did need a few weeks rest.
“He is not going to miss any of the tour dates.”

"McFly dress up as superheroes to amuse Dougie
McFly have decided fellow band member Dougie Poynter is in desperate need of cheering up.
The foursome has decided to wear superhero costumes for their up-coming arena tour.
The boys were set to kick off their ‘Above the Noise’ tour early this month. The band have decided to postpone the first gig until the 18th March so their band mate can have a rest before the jam packed arena tour begins.
Ever the cheeky chappies, the boys have decided to have a superhero themed tour to bring some light heartedness to the recent sadness in Mr Poynter’s life.
Danny explains, “Our set is superhero themed. It’s like something out of Spiderman and Batman.”
Whatever the theme we’re sure the tour will be amazing. We just hope that Dougie makes a speedy recovery and realises he has thousands of adoring fans ready to help him get over Frankie."

"McFly out to get Reebok on song
ONE of Bolton’s biggest music stars has been tasked with finding a tune to rock the Reebok.
Wanderers fan Danny Jones – known by millions as the front man of pop group McFly – has been asked to conjure up a song that could be used as an official club anthem to boost the matchday atmosphere.
Jones, from Bromley Cross, was back in town with his band last weekend to perform at Kevin Davies’s charity masquerade ball, which raised more than £138,000 for local causes.
And speaking to The Bolton News, the 24-year-old musician revealed that the club had laid down two musical challenges to him on the night.
“The Bolton chairman Phil Gartside said ‘I’ve got a favour to ask – how do I get these fans singing. Can you write me a song?,” Jones said.
“That’s probably one of the biggest challenges I have ever come across in my life.
“How do we get the Bolton people singing?
“So, that’s a challenge I have got to do in my life. I'll let you know when it comes out.”
Fans have voiced mixed opinions over the club’s recent decision to play Depeche Mode’s ‘Just Can’t Get Enough’ after each goal Wanderers score.
But they will have few complaints if Jones is successful in his second task – penning a song to lead the club into an FA Cup final.
The Whites take on Birmingham City in the quarter-finals, where victory could land them a semi-final at Wembley.
And if they make the last four, Jones has promised to be first in line to write the official song.
“I’d love to do a Cup Final song, it would be awesome,” he said.
“I would be there in all my gear. I love football.
“I watched Wanderers when I was a youngster at Burnden. I had a season ticket at the Reebok.
“I moved to London when I was 16 so I missed a lot of games. But I always keep tabs on what's going on.
“They always look after me when I come home. I really do love it.”
The current Wanderers squad already have some form with FA Cup ditties, with Kevin Davies admitting recently that he had a helping hand in Chesterfield’s 1997 ode ‘We Can Build Our Dreams,’ performed by Caught in the Akt.
The tune never charted, but the club skipper reckons it is worth a look.
“It went to number one in the Chesterfield charts,” he joked."

"Pop-stardom hits Evesham as McFly comes to town
HUNDREDS of screaming fans packed into Evesham's Riverside Shopping Centre as pop stardom hit the Vale this week.
Chart-topping band McFly were in town to promote their new single That's The Truth at Rapture Entertainment.
Originally scheduled to visit on Monday (March 7) the band were forced to put back their appearance 24 hours after illness hit band member Dougie Poynter.
But more than 500 fans still flocked to the store on Tuesday (March 8) to see their idols Tom Fletcher, Danny Jones and Harry Judd in the flesh.
The band arrived at just after 5pm but the entrance was so packed they had to sneak in the back door. They then spent more than three hours chatting to fans and signing copies of their CD making sure everyone went home happy.
Natalie Boyles, store manager, said the whole day had been a bit of a whirlwhind.
"It was an absolutely fantastic day, quite manic in parts but it went really, really well," she said.
"There must have been more than 500 people here, it was jam packed, and we sold around 600 singles.
"The guys were really nice and stayed until 8.30pm making sure they saw everyone who had come to see them.
"We're the only independent record store left in Worcestershire, so to get a band the size of McFly to come along was a really great coup."

"McFly are back and they’re all grown up
“We flew into America from Madrid and from the moment we landed it was mad,” says Tom. “We’d heard Dallas had a bit of a party reputation. We got to his studio, an amazing, slightly intimidating place – there were discs for Boyz II Men and Michael Jackson on the wall – and we played him some demos and explained what we were thinking for the new sound.
“It was all going really well and then he got a text message through on his phone and said ‘so do you boys want to come and meet Elton John, then?’
“He was in Atlanta at the time and was supposed to be going for dinner that night. Dallas said he was meeting up with us and Elton said, ‘OK, bring them along. I’d like to meet them.’ We were so tired. It’s 10 o’clock at night by now and we’re jetlagged.”
Elton told them that he played his first ever show at the end of the road they live on.
Yes, McFly were growing up under some auspicious musical wings.
“What was amazing to us,” says Tom, “Was that he (Dallas) really liked and respected us. We recorded the first melody line for Party Girl into his phone in a club. We’d do an hour in the studio and then three hours out somewhere. That one hour in the studio was worth every ten hours we’d done before.”
The new material has a robust edge.
“We just didn’t have any fear,” says Tom, “We learnt to completely rethink what McFly could be.”
McFLY play the Echo Arena Liverpool on March 29. Call the ticketline on 0844 800."
